pThroughout rural areas there is a big demand for fast satellite Internet, and that means there has to me more than one orbiting satellite to get the job done. With 21% of US residents residing in rural areas, satellite Internet demand is growing and so is the need for the satellite Internet industry to invest in satellite technology. That means there is a need for multiple satellites in orbit at once./p

h3How satellite broadband works, a brief overview/h3
pSatellite Internet begins at your home. A satellite Internet technician will install a satellite Internet dish on or near your home to begin the communication between one of the satellites in space. But these two satellites do not complete the satellite Internet communication cycle, the orbiting satellite must also send and receive data from the satellite located at the satellite Internet providerrsquo;s location. In essence, there are three points of communication required to make satellite broadband work./p
pnbsp;/p
pThe orbiting satellites rest about 22,000 miles above the equator. In order to get satellite Internet you must have a clear view of the southern sky near where the satellites reside. If the mini dish canrsquo;t communicate directly with the orbiting satellite, there will be disruptions in satellite broadband service./p

h3Orbiting satellites/h3
pA single satellite is able to provide enough bandwidth for an entire region (sometimes more). Take for example the AMC-15, which gets Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, and Arkansas high speed Internet. Although satellites of years past were powerful, the technology continues to advance./p

pIn October 2011, ViaSat, Inc. launched ViaSat-1, the highest capacity satellite in the world. Once fully operational, the satellite will provide Ka-band spot beam high speed Internet in rural areas throughout North America and Hawaii./p

pnbsp;/p
pThere are currently more than 400 satellites providing satellite broadband around the globe. It seems like the number of space satellites will grow exponentially, but maybe not. Because satellite technology is advancing and one satellite today can provide more power than one satellite could years ago, itrsquo;s possible we wonrsquo;t need as many satellites to do the job./p
